I first became interested in poker laws after I got involved in the online casino industry as an affiliate. You see, at first, I wasn’t a poker affiliate webmaster at all–my sites were all about online casinos. I got involved in poker by accident, when I was invited to an Internet Texas hold’em game by some other casino affiliate webmasters.
In fact, I didn’t even know how to play Texas hold’em. I played poker online, sure, but I hung out at the seven card stud tables. To be fair, I did do pretty well at the stud tables, but I guess that’s a dubious distinction in a world where Texas hold’em players outnumber seven card stud players by a factor of 20 to 1 or more.
So after learning to play Texas hold’em and becoming more interested in poker in general, I launched my first real site, a poker site, largely because the mentor I chose in the business was a big poker affiliate who didn’t really deal much with the casino side of things.
When you’re operating a poker site, you have to figure out subjects to write about, and one way of doing that is reading about what’s going on in the subject area. Since this all took place between 2003 and now, a lot of what there was to read about concerned the various laws that applied to poker in the United States.
Since I’ve done a massive amount of reading on the subject, I thought it would be fun to write about the subject, too. The result is this site.
