Sports betting is prevalent in the United States and continues to be an industry that is evolving and growing at a rapid rate as more individual states start to offer services. With this industry, there are rules and regulations that operators must follow to remain in compliance. It is relatively easy to do so, but relying on technology to offer services can be a double-edged sword. The technology allows easy betting for players, but it can also wreak havoc if something goes wrong.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, Station Casinos is currently in trouble due to a technical glitch. Issues with the company’s sports betting software allowed hundreds of bets to go through after the results of a game were completed. This is a big no-no and will most likely result in the company having to pay a large fine.
Over 340 Bets Placed
According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Station Casinos took 348 bets on events that were already completed from May 2018 to May 2021. This was not a one-time incident, but occurrences that took place over several years.
The company admits to the issue and says that an error in the software for Stadium Live causes the bets to be accepted when they should not have been. An employee for the casino company has confirmed the errors, calling it a server failure and stating that the issue was 100% avoidable.
Refunds Provided
After the bets were accepted, the company refunded the money and voided the betting slips. The Nevada Gaming Control Board wants to see the Nevada Gaming Commission take action against Station Casinos because the mistakes reflect negatively on the gambling industry of the state.
Regulators feel that Station Casinos should have a better process that they use to ensure mistakes such as this do not take place. It is unclear as to what the penalty will be, but it should be some type of monetary fine once regulators make their final decision.
